The Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides Medicare beneficiaries unbiased information and counseling about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and long-term care insurance through trained volunteer counselors certified by the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
Eligibility Requirements to Receive SHIIP Assistance:
- Current Medicare beneficiaries, 65 years of age and older and/or their designated representatives with written consent from their beneficiaries
- Individuals eligible to enroll in Medicare

Eligibility Requirements for Volunteers:
- SHIIP volunteers must complete 13 hours of training, provide 40 hours of volunteer service annually and attend quarterly meetings
- Perform SHIIP outreach activities to inform/educate the community about the service
