Volunteer


Thank you for inquiring about opportunities to volunteer at the Council.  We need volunteers for the following programs. 


Meals on Wheels – Director, Ken Dye   

Volunteer 1-2 hrs-any day of the week M-F between the hours of 11:30-1:30 pm.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Deliver meals in Cumberland County to home-bound seniors:  

  • Beauty Spot Baptist Church
  • Blue Street Senior Center
  • Center Baptist Church
  • Falling Run Missionary Baptist Church
  • First Baptist Church of Hope Mills
  • Grays Creek Baptist Church
  • Judson Baptist Church
  • Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist
  • Stedman Baptist Church
  • Spring Lake Senior Center
  • Simon Temple Church

We also have five congregate sites in Cumberland County we serve lunch meals Monday – Friday.


Community Caregiving Circle Program – Director, Kelly Moreton

Volunteer Opportunities:

(1) Telephone Reassurance  –  No set days or hours required.

  •  Call clients to check and see how they are doing.

(2)  Senior Companions  – Must be able to commit up to 2 hours of your time per week-doing any of the following:

  • Visit with the client in their home.
  • Transport client to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, other errands.
  • Help with light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, laundry, etc.
  • Respite Care
    • Sit with client and give family member a break.
    • Provide respite care to clients when needed.

   (3)  Yard Work – Simple Home Repairs – Can be a one-time visit or regular visits- flexible.

  • Yard work for seniors.
  • Minor home repairs if you have a specific skill set.

SHIIP- Senior Health Insurance Information Program – Director, Ellouise Garvin

We are always looking for volunteers.  SHIIP volunteers help fellow senior citizens in their community with questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Medicare prescription drug plans, long term care insurance, etc.

Requirements to become a volunteer: 

  • Must complete 13 hours of training, provide 40 hours of volunteer service annually and attend quarterly meetings.
  • Perform SHIIP outreach activities to inform/educate the community about the service.

Home Improvement Program

Our Home Improvement Program removes hindrances and helps make home safe.  Home repairs include:  minor repairs, installation of security features and mobility and accessibility modifications.  We are in need of volunteers to help build accessibility ramps.    Volunteer with an existing ramp team or if you are interested in knowing more about how to start a ramp building team through your church or organization, fill out the form and the Executive Director, Dennis Bowen will contact you personally.
