Volunteer


Thank you for inquiring about opportunities to volunteer at the Council.  We need volunteers for the following programs: 


Meals on Wheels – Director, Amber Gulch   

Volunteer 1-2 hours any day of the week Monday – Friday between the hours of 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Deliver meals in Cumberland County to home-bound seniors from the following sites:  

  • Beauty Spot Baptist Church
  • Blue Street Senior Center
  • Center Baptist Church
  • Falling Run Missionary Baptist Church
  • First Baptist Church of Hope Mills
  • Friendship Missionary Baptist Church
  • Grays Creek Baptist Church
  • Judson Baptist Church
  • Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist
  • Stedman Baptist Church
  • Spring Lake Senior Center
  • Simon Temple Church

Volunteers also assist at our five congregate sites, where we serve lunch Monday – Friday (Blue Street Senior Center, Falling Run Missionary Baptist, First Baptist Church, Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist, Spring Lake Senior Center).


Community Caregiving Circle Program – Director, Kelly Moreton

Volunteer Opportunities:

(1) Telephone Reassurance  –  No set days or hours required.

  •  Call clients to provide conversation and check on safety and well-being.

(2)  Senior Companions  – Must be able to commit up to 2 hours of your time per week doing any of the following:

  • Visit with the client in their home.
  • Transport client to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, other errands.
  • Help with light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, laundry, etc.
  • Provide respite care to give a family caregiver a break

(3)  Yard Work/Simple Home Repairs – Can be a one-time visit or regular visits.

  • Yard work for seniors.
  • Minor home repairs if you have a specific skill set.

SHIIP- Senior Health Insurance Information Program – Director, Ellouise Garvin

We are always looking for volunteers.  SHIIP volunteers help fellow senior citizens in their community with questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare prescription drug plans, long term care insurance, etc.  Volunteers provide confidential one-on-one counseling, assist in community outreach, and record all interactions.

Requirements to become a volunteer: 

  • Must complete the 13 hour online training certification.
  • Not be or have an immediate family member who is an active insurance salesperson.
