Caregiver Supports

Caregiver Support Groups

Support groups offer an opportunity for caregivers of older adults to learn about community events and resources, connect with other caregivers, seek advice, and gather information on how to better care for themselves and their loved ones.  Groups provide support to those caring for an older adult who may be facing dementia, limited mobility, other health ailments, or general aging, and are offered both in-person and virtually. Our support groups are offered by certified support group facilitators with Dementia Alliance of NC.

Education

Assisting Older Adults: Three-hour class dedicated to supporting family members, community members, and others interested in assisting older adults by providing information on care options, questions to ask as a caregiver, resource information, tips on having tough conversations, and caregiver self-care.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Evidence-based program aimed at helping family caregivers thrive and not just survive the caregiving journey.  Class is offered once a week for six consecutive weeks, and covers topics to include emotion management, resource use, communication tips, caregiving with others, and more.  Includes self-care activities throughout the six weeks, numerous resources provided each week, and the “Caregiver Helpbook” (print and/or e-book) at no cost.

Additionally, we offer the Managing Stress Seminar, a one-time session based on the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program, aimed at understanding, identifying, and taking action to reduce caregiving stress
